چکیده

The MC (mixed-criticality on multicore) framework has been proposed and implemented in LITMUS, a realtime extension to Linux. The implemented MC framework has been used in several research efforts pertaining to multiprocessor real-time systems. This paper describes the current status of work on MC. There are currently two MC branches. We describe the features of each branch and report on current progress in unifying these branches.

Providing Hardware Isolation on Multicore Platforms: What About the Operating System?

Efforts towards hosting safety-critical, real-time applications on multicore platforms have been stymied by a problem that has been dubbed the “one-out-of-m” problem: due to excessive analysis pessimism, the overall capacity of an m-core platform can easily be reduced to roughly just one core. The predominant approach for addressing this problem introduces hardware-isolation techniques that ame...

Multicore Operating-System Support for Mixed Criticality∗

Ongoing research is discussed on the development of operating-system support for enabling mixed-criticality workloads to be supported on multicore platforms. This work is motivated by avionics systems in which such workloads occur. In the mixed-criticality workload model that is considered, task execution costs may be determined using more-stringent methods at high criticality levels, and lesss...

What if we would degrade LO tasks in mixed-criticality systems?

Mixed-criticality (MC) systems [1] allow tasks of different importance (or criticality) to be consolidated into a single system. Consolidation facilitates resource sharing (even across criticality levels) and hence bears the potential to reduce the overall amount of resources needed. However, there is a common misconception that recurs in literature about Vestal’s model: the false believe that ...

A safety concept for a wind power mixed-criticality embedded system based on multicore partitioning

The development of mixed-criticality systems that integrate applications of different criticality levels (safety, security, real-time and non real-time) can provide multiple benefits such as product cost-size-weight reduction, reliability increase and scalability. However, the integration of applications of different levels of criticality leads to several challenges with respect to safety certi...
